Finding Happiness

The secret of life..."To be happy and to make others so."

Here are some things that make me happy...
enjoy:)

I love watching raccoons run through my yard in the summer. There used to be a whole family that lived in the fig tree outside my window. Portland has tons of raccoons. It's fun walking at night through the neighborhoods and see them running down the sidewalk by chance.

What a sweet baby squirrel.

In Costa Rica the capuchin monkeys would pass quietly by my bedroom in the morning. They would walk cautiously and gracefully carrying their babies through the branches. And, you could hear the howlers talking in the distance during the day. Pura Vida

I love the beach, the warm sun, boogie boarding, the taste..feel..smell..and everything about ocean waves...This dog makes me happy..

Finally, what makes me happy is smiling, laughing, and sharing with all of you...

cheers.

Vidal Sassoon Interview

Someone very special to me sent an interview on Vidal Sassoon, one of the greatest hairdressers in the industry. He created geometric short haircuts, a line of products and salons, and jump started hair cutting of the 60's on women such as, Nancy Kwan, Mia Farrow, Mary Kwant, and Grace Coddington. He has changed the way we cut and style hair forever.

The Nancy Kwan

Here is one of the most famous images in hairdressing...Vidal cut 4 FEET off of Nancy Kwan's hair while she cooly played chess with her manager. That's 48 inches..10 inches is what you need to donate to Locks of Love...And, all of you who have donated realize just how much weight and hair that really is. It's a huge change!! This cut made Nancy Kwan's face one of the most recognizable in the world of bobs and fashion.

Mia Farrow with Vidal Sassoon

In 1968, Roman Polanski invited photographers and the media to come broadcast Mia Farrows haircut for NBC, CBS, and ABC which began the craze of her Rosemary's Baby haircut.

Twiggy Follows the Short Hair Trend

Agnes Dyne and Emma Watson Follow Suit

And, we follow the trends of these models and actresses when we seek change in our lives and a time to be bold.

One of My Favorite Quotes from the Interview

In response to hippy hair and the long hair of today that just hangs without shape..."Long hair is beautiful when it's cut long , but when it's just left hanging and straggly..I think do these people have style.. I mean their clothes look well, but where is there bone structure... You can't see a thing. All you see are curtains." Vidal Sassoon 2011

Let's style it up ladies:)

Living it up like Marie Antoinette

Here is a video I love inspired by Versailles and Marie Antoinette's party lifestyle. She was young, naive, had never experienced poverty and didn't understand living within her means. I love her grand expression of style, and I love the hair in this video. I would love to be a part of a photo shoot or video that uses this type of lighting, youthful energy, and gorgeous set.

Thank you to my beautiful friend for sharing this on her blog Calico

When I clean my house...this is pretty much what happens:)

Check out Wild Fox Couture They have a beautiful fresh ad campaign and some clothes fit for the modern princess.

Rihanna Red Hair

What do you guys think of Rihanna's Red Hair? The 22 year old singer has been rockin this hair for the past year. Rihanna's stylist Ursula Stephen keeps it creative by changing the length and texture but keeping the same signature color.

Here we see Rihanna's short cut that first made her someone to watch for cutting edge hair. Then a more processed, fluffy 80's looking texture...fun and flirty with a bit of lace. Hhmmm..I'm least crazy about the long straight red without bangs. It feels a little trashy, talk show guest, but she is undeniably beautiful in any style.

I like the use of color here...a little more fiery on top and browner/more violet in the lower ends..This contrast can be done with any range of colors...something to consider ladies...maybe even in dark brown black hair, washing the bottom with blue to give a slightly more intriguing tone.
With these red curls, I love the shape of her cut. You can see that curly girls can have just the right framing bangs and shorter layers. If you look where the ends pop out, you can see short piecey layers.
And, the signature Rihanna mohawk in red.

Overall, I'm enjoying her transformation. When I was 20 I had my hair hot pink. It was fun. I felt like a super hero, and it gave me life and energy. Hair helps define moments in life and is a great form of self expression. I feel like it can change personalities a little making people more outgoing, serious and businessminded, free, or the full spectrum...just depending on the time of your life. Enjoy the changing beauty of hair:)
