Braides...Leanne Marshall Runway

Today my inspiration is Leanne Marshall. I didn't plan to focus on her all day for my blog, but she is right on in her runway hair/makeup in NYC.

This year I would love to see a specific style for each designer's models in hair and makeup instead of many different styles all night. While seeing many different styles can be fun, I would love to see one style duplicated well on different models.

Braids are big this season, and I love what Leanne Marshall had the hair team do for her NYC Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2010 Spring/Summer Collection. Portland's own photographer, Minh Tran captured the detail of the clothes and hair.

Portland Fashion Week (PFW) Oct. 7-11 2009

This year I'm excited to do hair for 2 nights at PFW. This will be my 3rd consecutive year doing hair backstage as part of the Sidlab Hair Couture team. They are a Portland based product line which is paraben free and has no sodium laurel sulfate. They use a coconut derived foaming agent.

In the next week I will try to post a few styles that I would like to try and maybe come I have done in the past.

The current image is from the 2007 show. This was my first model I ever did for PFW. She was wearing the designer Leanne Marshall, formerly known as Leanimal. Leanne Marshall has now relocated to NYC after winning Bravo!'s Project Runway in Oct 2008. Her work has really become more and more inspiring over the years.

Come check out my styles Oct. 8th and 11th at Portland Fashion Week!!

Popular Wedding Styles

Here are some photos a client sent today. This photo of Eva Longoria comes up in almost every bridal consultation. Soft waves are very popular this season giving a look that doesn't look too fussed over. It still feels natural and glamorous without trying too hard.

Braids are also making an impact with brides and bridesmaids. They are fun and youthful. A braid adds a casual, approachable accent to a formal style.

Little bits falling in the hairline have taken the place of the dreaded 2 sausage curls on the sides from old school dances. These waves soften angular facial features and create a softer feel to the entire style. Very slicked back styles and hard hairspray is a thing of the past right now.

Hair should not be a helmet!

Traditional Vietnamese Wedding

Lani had a 2 day wedding. The first day was traditional wedding ceremony that celebrated Vietnamese and Buddhist traditions, later that night they played ultimate frisbee ( I was happy to see Lani's wedding hair hold up in the photos!!) And, the following day they had a celebration at the Portland Armory...all over 4th of July weekend!! Both of Lani's dresses were gorgeous(and the frisbee dress)!! To see a glimpse of the day visit their photographers blog Jingzi Zhao.

Inspirational Hair From Sunny Lisbon

There is amazing, creative hair coming out of Lisbon at WIP-Hairport. They have a huge collection on flickr of cuts/colors for men and women of all ages. One of my new favorites is the star on the back of the head.
