The magic behind a good photo is movement, acting, and providing a range of different emotions. I believe this is one of the reasons the modeling industry has moved more towards using actresses in place of models. This has been a shift since our last great Super Models: Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Iman, and Linda Evangelista ect. The agencies and TV created a lifestyle that everyday women dreamed of...wealth, sunny beaches, parties, gorgeous clothes, shoes, men, and fame all for being a woman with the power to entice. If models could build a persona for viewers to relate to they could steal the show back from their onscreen competitors.
Agyness Deyn is one example of a working model who conveys huge personality.
Others who have built a name through their modeling: Kate Moss, Gisele Bundchen... and tv personality models Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks who have brought great attention to the modeling and fashion world.

Love the direction of your blog Kira... with my career in Esthetics, women have a ton of questions about their brows and what's sexy or "in". I find that a bold brow is very captivating, and if you feel like you can pull it off (especially dark contrast if you have light hair) you will feel sexy and more confident, and people will notice your face more. There is also too dark or too bold/thick of a brow, which would depend on your complexion and face shape. If people are too scared to go bold, I usually lead them to trying a brow powder or pencil to temporarily fill in the shape in order to get used to the new look, this can help. I've also noticed in some fashion spreads, or on Americas Next Top Model, that brow bleaching is a new in. I personally do not like it, but it is an option for some people if they are willing to rock it! My thoughts : dark brows, platinum hair is HOT! Very high fashion and edgy. I think you are right on here Kira. I was just looking through my latest InStyle magazine and most of the models were actresses or entertainers. There were a few key models but they were few, and used often.
ReplyDeleteIt also seems the day of cool "editorial" style makeup is gone for the time being. Everything seems really subtle... to the point of almost being nude. A few models weren't even wearing mascara.
Hair seems to be more of a favorite in a lot of the ads over makeup which can make finding new inspiring looks a bit more challenging.
Lately, in order to fuel my passion and spur my creative juices, I have been following a few muas that I love...Lottie Stannard (NY) and Bebe Booth (LA). Both are truly amazing and are still bold enough to do stuff that is not "in the box". Very conceptual and creative. Unlike a lot of the stuff in the magazines.
