Thank you to my Brides
Today I received such a sweet note from one of my brides. I felt so special that she took the time to make me a thank you note. Wedding season is one of my favorite times of year. It's a time full of love and excitement. There is talk of how you met, fell in love, the beautiful details of the wedding, honeymoons, and plans for the future. I love being part of the story of the very special day, and I love creating gorgeous wedding hair. Thank you Liz for sending the note, and thank you to all of my brides for making this season so wonderful:)

Shoot For Clothing Designer Holly Stalder
This June Jaime Ibarra, Zoe Mattheisen, Madi Roosevelt, and I created a lovely scene in Holly Stalder's backyard for her latest collection. Holly collects the most beautiful antique lace and ribbon to layer into her dresses. Since her designs are a mix of new and old materials they feel like they have a story to them that has been influenced by a past life of candle lit garden parties and lazy days sipping champagne in a drifting canoe.
I lived in Asheville, NC with my husband for 2 years. While we were there he worked at the Biltmore Estate built by George Vanderbilt in 1895. It remains the largest privately owned residence. Her dresses could have been worn by the guests of George Vanderbilt or his only daughter Cornelia when she threw a party her friends painted a huge room in their basement which can still be seen today. They had a deep indoor pool an outdoor pool, a bowling alley, gorgeous green house, a winery, stables, and plenty of places to escape and dream. This is where I imagine Holly Stalder's dresses to have come from.
My favorite part about working with Holly is she let's me pretty much do whatever I want. I can show up with a few different ideas, and she let's me play. I read Holly's comments on her designs in the Mercury Fashion show, and she said that this season she was inspired by symmetry. So, I wanted to play on that. For this shoot I found hair I loved in Bumble and Bumble's Hair Stories No. 4 It features 10 years of amazing backstage runway hair. The picture reference is at the top. And, I realized it didn't really show the front:) Holly said it was hard for her to imagine what I was doing when I wrapped to top of Zoe's hair on hair pins and added extensions to the back and top for fullness. I had it all complete in my mind, and after the shoot she said she was nervous but, she trusted me. And, that's why I love Holly Stalder:)

Pureologist Certification Class Round 4
On Monday Aug. 17, 2009 I had the opportunity to take the Pureologist Ceritification Class for the 4th time!! It is an AWESOME 8 hr. in depth product knowledge class on Pureology shampoos/conditioners/treatments/stylers/company history/future goals.
A few things I took away from the class.
Shine Max not only provides shine, heat protection, fights frizz...it also hydrates the hair!!
The Pink Volume line needs to be used with heat to activate the volumizing properties in the system. It puts a moisture molecule deep in the hair shaft and it plumps up when heat is applied. (blow drier/ irons ect.) The difference from other volume shampoos/conditioners/stylers is it doesn't have a cuticle stimulant. Other products rough up the cuticle to make the hair feel dry and stand up on itself. Pureology is all about smooth, shiny, healthy hair with great color retention.
Purify shampoo is like an exfoliant for the hair. It takes impurities from the environment(car exhaust ect.) chlorine, product build up, life out of the hair. Gives incredible shine and a clean surface to work with. Use once a week follow with your favorite Pureology shampoo/conditioner/ or mask.
Also..the photos feature the 2 hands on styling demos we got to do. Thank you so much Pureology for a great class, Kyla did a great job!!

Photographers as clients are wonderful!
I had so much fun cutting Sarah Giffrow's hair. We blew it out with a round brush to set some waves into it. She is tired of long straight look and is moving toward softer waves. We added layers below the chin creating more interest through the length. I love this new look.
Sarah and Ben of Enko Photography took photos after the cut and style for their website. Thank you so much for sharing them!!

check out the fun and the wedding hair on youtube:)
summer wedding
I had so much fun doing wedding hair for Lauren Bell, her 2 bridesmaids, and her wonderful mother whom I also had the pleasure of cutting and coloring her hair before the wedding. Anna Webber did beautiful makeup, and the bodice cake and the wedding cake were created by Sweet Cakes. I had some of the bodice cake that you can see in the video, and it was incredible!
Sorry I can't figure out how to post the summer wedding video:) It is so heart warming.

Before I After flat ironing
This morning I did Teresa's hair on her visit to Portland from North Carolina. We had met a year ago when I worked on a photo shoot for her daughter Chelsea who sells her 80's inspired clothes locally and internationally under the label Erhart.
At the time of the photo shoot Teresa was living in Egypt where she had hair horror stories of 2 men blow drying her hair. One holding the brush and hair, the other burning her scalp with the blow dryer , then ironing her hair with an iron heated on metal plates, I think. In Egypt only men could be hairdressers and the windows of the salon were all kept shut to keep out the eyes of onlookers.
She has been through a lot with her hair, so today's experience of a cut/color/style was a real treat and a learning experience. After blowing out her hair we flat ironed it with the GHD flat iron/styler It locked in so much moisture into Teresa's hair for shine and polish that will last until it is washed again. The frizz of her blown out hair was tamed, and the deeper color made her skin glow.
GHD has only been in the US since 2005. It has universal voltage for here and the UK. There is a 2 year warranty through the company, and a one year warranty when special ordered through me at the salon where you can return it directly to me for a full cash refund on the spot no questions asked, even if it still works perfectly. Extra features: advanced ceramic heaters for static free shine, rounder edges for curling, sleep mode/shuts off when left unattended for 30 minutes, heats up in seconds, contains a hologram to let you know it's authentic undiverted, casing made of rhyonite(bomb proof) to limit breakage from dropping. Finally it adjusts it's temp. every 30 seconds depending on the porosity of the hair to prevent damage. I LOVE this iron.
