When we met...I was a unicorn...

How many of you wish you could say that... My friends know I love to carry this happy, unicorn spirit with me everyday, but Halloween 2010 I had the opportunity to be a unicorn for the day.

Josh Mitchell of Continuum Wedding Photographyand I actually met for the first time while we were both living in Portland. He was shooting a wedding...A Halloween wedding...(yes. only in Portland. and it was epic)  My friend wanted a herd of unicorns at her wedding...And, I was more than happy to be a unicorn with a magic star wand..Can we please do that again:)

Of course I did the brides hair as a unicorn:)

3 years later, I'm in San Diego...And, it seems I've turned into a model..Or, at least Josh Mitchell of Continuum Photography and makeup artist Cheriene Galley make me feel like a model.
These were a few of my favorite images..There were so many it was hard to choose!! I feel so welcomed to San Diego by my old/new friends:)

Bridgette Bardot Bangs

My clients have been asking me for Bridgette Bardot's hair for years...especially when summer rolls around. Bridgette Bardot has that sexy, easy, effortless look that reminds us of our most beautiful summer days. Now that I'm in San Diego the land of endless summer I might have to get these bangs again...
It's not straight across and it's not the swooping side bangs but a blend of the two.  Casually letting the bangs fall where they may..

xoxo.

Kate Moss or Natalie Morris

I love seeing models I know grown up to be Super Models.. Or, actually be the body double of super model Kate Moss...Way to go Natalie Morris!!

Sarah Seven Bridal dresses
What a small world. I've worked with Natalie as a model and insurance agent. When I first met Natalie on a jewelry shoot for
Sahlia Michelle's Bridal line between looks she was answering client calls for health insurance. After the shoot Natalie helped me to set up a new health care plan as well. I was impressed with her knowledge. She is kind, professional, smart, and funny. I'm so proud of her. Now it seems she is taking a break from Portland and stepping out in the streets of London as Miss Kate Moss.

Hair in Glamour!!

I love seeing my images out and about in the world..on Pintrest, blogs, facebook... Maybe my goal with every shoot should be..."I want images that people will pin on Pintrest"..."because they like them:)" That really warms my heart.. xoxo

My favorite part of a shoot or bridal trial run is changing the hair once we've created our texture...In these images you'll  notice sometimes the back remains the same while the top changes, or the top will stay the same and the bottom might shift to the side..I build updos that can be taken apart to adjust to the look/feel/face shape, dreams of the bride...

A few more images from the Sarah Seven dress shoot...

WILD: from lost to found on the pacific crest trail

Something to pick up...Wild by Cheryl Strayed... Cheryl backpacks the Pacific Crest Trail from Tehachapi Pass in Sequoia National Park just north of LA continuing up through Portland, OR to Bridge of the Gods. After the death of her mother and divorce, she searches for the path to healing. Cheryl begins that process on the PCT.

Trout fishing at frog lake with view of Mt. Hood last summer

Last night, I read a passage about Crater Lake that I'd love to share. We've all gone through hard times. I know this because I've shared my life with my clients/friends and you've shared your experiences with me...I miss all of you in Portland, but I'm excited for a rebirth here in the sun of La Jolla. While reading it I was reminded of one of my clients. She came in a few times a year with wild, thick, red hair. She would bring poetry early on a Sunday morning when we had the salon to ourselves. And, she would read to me. We would relate it to our lives or the lives of her young children. Those were beautiful Sunday mornings. This is something I would have brought to share ...So, now I will share it here:)

dedicated my special Portland friends.

crater lake view of Wizard Island

This was once Mazama, I kept reminding myself. This was once a mountain that stood nearly 12, 000 feet tall and then had its heart removed. This was once a wasteland of lava and pumice and ash. This was once an empty bowl that took hundreds of years to fill. But hard as I tried, I couldn't see them in my mind's eye. Not the mountain or the wasteland or the empty bowl. They simply were not there anymore. There was only the stillness and silence of that water: what a mountain and a wasteland and an empty bowl turned into after the healing began.
